To strengthen fiscal cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and India, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Public Finance Cooperation was signed in Bengaluru, India, on August 28, 2026, by Representative Dr. Mumin Chen of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India and Director General Ninad S. Deshpande of the India-Taipei Association. The MOU thus expands the two sides’ longstanding cooperation into a broader range of public finance areas and establishes an institutionalized and regular mechanism for exchanges, laying a stronger foundation for deeper bilateral fiscal cooperation.
The Ministry of Finance (MOF) noted that Taiwan and India signed agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and customs mutual assistance in New Delhi on July 12, 2011, establishing a longstanding foundation for cooperation on income tax and tariff matters. Building on this foundation, the newly signed MOU broadens the scope of exchanges to encompass treasury affairs, taxation, customs, national property management, promotion of private participation in infrastructure projects, and international financial cooperation. Going forward, both sides will deepen professional exchanges and experience sharing through bilateral meetings, seminars, participation in training programs, and mutual consultations.
The MOF further explained that the MOU takes effect on the date of signature (i.e., August 28, 2026), which will establish a systematic mechanism for bilateral fiscal exchange and be beneficial to further deepening exchanges and cooperation.
