Headline: The 22 finalists for the 18th Private Participation in Infrastructure Projects Golden Thumb Awards

A total of 34 private participation in infrastructure project cases applied for the 18th Private Participation in Infrastructure Projects Golden Thumb Awards. Among them, 22 finalists were selected following the preliminary selection meeting on June 29, 2020. The selection committee convened by the Ministry of Finance includes elites from the private sector, government, and academia with related professional knowledge and experience.

This year’s finalists include 9 cases for the “Award for Private Team,” 9 for the “Government Agency Award,” and 4 for the “Award for the Consultant Team.” The projects cover sewage facilities, transportation construction, culture and education, tourism and recreation, health care facilities, and other public infrastructure categories. The categories of sewage facilities and health care facilities were not among the finalists last year. The wide range of diversity in this year’s finalist list shows that PPP has effectively been promoted in everyday life.

This year, due to the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many industries have been affected. The authority in charge and private institution manage to adhere to the core value of promoting private participation in public infrastructure projects. Through the joint efforts and cooperation between both sides, the quality of public infrastructure service remains sound, continuing to provide good public services to the general public. At this year’s Private Participation in Infrastructure Projects Golden Thumb Awards, the authority in charge and private institution with concrete contributions in relief measures have been awarded certificates to commend their spirit of public-private partnership and effective extension of relief measure beneficiaries. Additionally, in order to implement the 2030 bilingual national policy, the Bilingual Excellence Award was added. Private operation teams with outstanding performance in promoting the bilingual national policy and included in the list of finalists will be awarded the Bilingual Excellence Award as encouragement.

According to the Ministry of Finance, in order to gain insight into the actual implementation, operation, supervision, and contract management situations of the finalists, the selection committee shall conduct on-site inspections. A second selection meeting is scheduled to be held in early September 2020 to select exceptional superior, superior, honorable mention, welfare, bilingual excellence award winners, and teams that have achieved sound relief measures. The awards ceremony will be held on November 13, 2020, at the Taipei International Convention Center.
