The Finance Minister, Ms. Tsui-yun Chuang, Leads Delegation to Attend the 2024 APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting

Minister Ms. Tsui-yun Chuang of the Ministry of Finance accompaning by Vice Chairperson Mr. Yen-Liang Chen of the Financial Supervisory Commission and other relevant financial officials are to participate in the APEC Finance Ministers Meeting held in Lima, Peru, from October 18 to 21 , 2024. The theme of this year s meeting is More Sustainable, More Digital, More Resilient, and More APEC,” aiming to enhance communication and cooperation among APEC economies in addressing issues such as climate change and promoting sustainable development.

The meeting will be chaired by Mr. José Arista Arbildo, Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, who invites finance ministers from various economies to share experiences and engage in dialogue. The meeting is arranged to integrate conclusions from the Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting (FCBDM) held in February, the Senior Finance Officials’ Meeting (SFOM) in May, and related topic seminars, and will produce outcomes that may provide the reference for policy formulation among participating economies.

In the face of multiple challenges such as climate change and global economic risks, multilateral cooperation among countries in the Asia-Pacific region is vital for promoting relevant policies and achieving a dynamic and resilient APEC community. During the meeting, finance ministers will hear professional insights from international organizations including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and will engage in discussions with representatives from business industries such as the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). A joint statement from the APEC Finance Ministers is expected to be released after the meeting, outlining the direction of multilateral cooperation efforts and the outcomes of the conference.

The APEC Finance Ministers Meeting serves as an important platform for exchanging financial and economic policies among economies. The delegation will share Taiwan s experiences in promoting topics such as macroeconomic outlook, sustainable infrastructure, sustainable finance initiatives, open finance, and digital financial inclusion, with the aim of expanding fiscal diplomacy, enhancing international cooperation, and improving the resilience and sustainable development capacity of the overall financial market.
