Kaohsiung Customs Calls for Awareness of Import Regulations Ahead of Cross-Border Online Shopping

Kaohsiung Customs recently received feedback from the public indicating a substantial increase in cases where maritime express consignments, subject to specific import regulation, have been required to switch to general declaration procedures. The Customs stated that according to Article 12 of Regulations Governing Customs Clearance Procedures for Maritime Express Consignments, goods subject to import regulations may not be cleared through simplified declaration. Common maritime express imports, such as stereo speakers, portable air-conditioners, refrigerators, fans, medical devices, food, toys, etc., must be declared by using a general import declaration form.

The Customs further noted that as cross-border online shopping becomes increasingly popular, along with frequent cross-border e-commerce promotional activities, the number of maritime express consignments has multiplied. However, many individuals are unaware of the import regulations, leading to a significant increase in cases where simplified declarations are misused and customs requires a switch to general declaration.

Kaohsiung Customs reminds the public to check import regulations before purchasing cross-border e-commerce goods. If there are any questions regarding these regulations, it is advisable to consult with customs brokers or competent authorities in advance to protect their rights.
