Taipei Customs and Aviation Police Bureau Jointly Seized Marijuana Buds Weighing About 133 Kilograms.

Taipei Customs states that when X-ray inspection was performed at Terminal 2 of Taoyuan International Airport at 8 o’clock on April 8, 2022, Taipei Customs and Aviation Police Bureau jointly seized 8 boxes of marijuana buds, with a gross weight of about 133 kilograms. The checked-in baggage is from Canada and was wrapped with cloth to avoid detection. Under Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, Taipei customs detained 4 suspects and collected relevant evidence and the full case was transferred to the Aviation Police Bureau, National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior for further investigation.

This successful case was jointly seized by Taipei Customs and Aviation Police Bureau, demonstrating Taipei Customs determination to fully implements Executive Yuan anti-drug strategy and increases seizure capacity and inspection density. Taipei Customs and related government authority will continue to cooperate and investigate drug smuggling in order to protect people’s health. 

Under Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, marijuana is listed as a Category 2 drug in Taiwan. Offenders of manufacturing, transporting, or selling Category two narcotics are subject to life imprisonment or a minimum ten-year fixed-term imprisonment, and may also be subject to a fine of no more than fifteen million New Taiwan Dollars. Taipei Customs suggest people in Taiwan should be cautioned against carrying or importing goods containing marijuana in order to avoid legal penalties.
