The Ministry of Finance (MOF) stated that the 2023 APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting is held in San Francisco, the United States, from November 10 to 13. The Finance Minister Ms. Tsui-Yun Chuang and the Vice Chairperson of Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) Ms. Tsuey-Lin Hsiao lead a delegation of officials from the MOF, FSC, and the Central Bank, to the Meeting.
The MOF explained that this year's APEC is hosted by the United States with a focus on "Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All." Topics discussed at the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting include global and regional economic and financial outlook, modern supply-side economics, sustainable finance (covering fair energy transition financing, voluntary carbon markets, climate-related financing practices), digital assets and progress on initiatives related to the Finance Ministers’ Process.
The MOF indicated that the Finance Ministers' Meeting is chaired by U.S. Treasury Secretary Dr. Janet Yellen and incorporates the results of the Finance and Central Bank Deputies' Meeting held in Palm Springs this February, the Senior Finance Officials' Meeting held in Seattle this July, and related seminars. In addition, finance ministers listen to the views of international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and experiences shared by private sectors, as well as have a dialogue with industry representatives from APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). A Joint Statement by APEC Finance Ministers is expected to be released and submitted to the APEC Leaders' Meeting afterwards.
The delegation introduces Taiwan’s overall economic outlook, the Forward-looking Infrastructure Program, and the promotion of sustainable finance, as well as demostrates the results of the APEC Virtual Workshop of “Leveraging New Technology for Tax Administration in the Post-COVID Era,” which was hosted by the MOF in September this year. Through sharing experiences with other economies, the MOF further facilitates fiscal diplomacy and enhances Taiwan’s international visibility.
