We welcome foreign travelers to visit Taiwan! Here are three ways to claim tax refunds when shopping.

The National Taxation Bureau of the Northern Area, Ministry of Finance (hereinafter referred to as “NTBNA”) expressed that, with the easing of the pandemic restrictions and the anticipation of the recovery of post-pandemic tourism, our country continues to implement various tourism promotion initiatives to attract foreign travelers to shop in Taiwan. Foreign travelers who purchase eligible goods that may accompany the traveler when departing from the Republic of China (R.O.C.) with a total sales value of NT$2,000 or more (VAT included) at one single authorized Tax Refund Shopping (TRS) labeled store on the same day, and who later carry the goods eligible out of the R.O.C. within the specific deadline, may prior to the first departure from the R.O.C. claim a VAT refund through the following three ways. The key matters of attention are shown in the attached table.

NTBNA further indicates that the operation of electronic VAT refunds services for foreign travelers is designated to Chunghwa Telecom Enterprise Business Group, which may deduct 20% as a tax refund service fee when handling VAT refund claims made by foreign travelers. If you need further information, please visit the tax refund website https://www.taxrefund.net.tw, or dial the toll-free hotline 0800-880-288.
