As the Covid-19 pandemic has slowed down and the border has been reopened, the cases of passengers bringing in pets from abroad have gradually increased. If passengers bring in pets with unaccompanied luggage, please declare to the customs via the Red (Goods to Declare/Customs Service) Channel upon arrival. For those who proactively declare to the customs via the Red Channel are entitled to a totaled NT$20,000 exemption per person for personal or household articles. In addition, if pets or live animals are regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture, please consult with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency, Ministry of Agriculture for relevant information.

Taipei Customs further stated that if the public have the import demands for live animals, please be aware of if the animals are regulated by Wildlife Conservation Act. In accordance with paragraph 1, article 24 of "the aforementioned Act", No import or export of live wildlife or protected wildlife products is allowed without prior approval from the National Principal Authority. As such, a relevant certificate issued by relevant authority (Ministry of Agriculture, Executive Yuan) is needed before importation of wildlife products. In addition, if the species are classified under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), a CITES permit from issuing countries and other certificates should be submitted. In this aspect, please inquire Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs for further information, if necessary.
