The International Taxation Academy (ITA), organized by the Training Institute, Ministry of Finance(MOFTI) has reached its 42nd session this year, with the two-week program officially commencing today (the 17th). This year’s curriculum focuses on the "Global Minimum Tax" and "Tax Policy Evaluation for Global Practitioners: Economic Principles and Real-World Applications." During the first week, the courses will be jointly taught by Jesse Kavanagh, Leader Partner in Charge of Tax Reporting and Strategy at PwC Hong Kong, and Tseng Po-sheng, Leader Partner in Charge of Global Tax and Transfer Pricing Services at PwC Taiwan. The second week will feature lectures by Mike Nelson, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Economics and Director of the Center for Economic and Business Research at the University of Akron in the United States. Through detailed explanations, case studies, and group discussions led by expert scholars and professionals, the program aims to foster a comprehensive understanding among participants and bridge the gap between theory and practice.
The participants in ITA represent a diverse range of backgrounds. International participants include tax and fiscal officials from seven of Taiwan’s allied countries: Belize, Eswatini, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Romania, the Philippines, and Armenia. Domestic participants include officials from the Department of International Fiscal Affairs, Department of Planning, Taxation Administration, Customs Administration, and the five National Taxation Bureaus under the Ministry of Finance, as well as representatives from the Taipei City Revenue Service, New Taipei City Tax Bureau, Taoyuan City Local Taxation Bureau, Taichung City Local Tax Bureau, and Kaohsiung City Revenue Service. More than 40 domestic participants are attending the program. In addition, the National Taiwan University and National Taipei University of Business have recommended students from their accounting and taxation departments to participate.
In addition to the professional curriculum, the MOFTI has arranged a variety of activities featuring Taiwan’s local history and culture, including visits to the Customs Museum, the Taipei 101 Observatory, and the National Palace Museum, as well as a day trip to Taiwan’s North Coast as well as opportunities to experience traditional cuisine and night-market snacks. These activities are designed to give international participants a deeper understanding of Taiwan.
Over the years, the International Taxation Academy organized by the MOFTI has become an important platform for in-depth exchanges among tax and fiscal professionals from Taiwan and abroad, as well as for promoting international cooperation in taxation.
