Commodity Inspection Required for Importing High Pressure Seamless Steel Gas Vessels and Empty Refrigerant Cylinders

Keelung Customs (KLC) said that, the importation of empty high pressure seamless steel gas vessels and refrigerant cylinders requires commodity inspection by Bureau of Standard, Metrology and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (BSMI).

KLC further explained, “Pursuant to Article 6 and Article 60 of the Commodity Inspection Act, any commodity which does not comply with inspection regulations is prohibited from importing to Taiwan. The importation without obligatory inspection from the BSMI will be fined from 200,000 to 2 million NTD.” KLC had seized several cases of empty cylinders which had been falsely declared as chemical gas cylinders since 2021. Punishments should be imposed on importers involving false declaration in accordance with Customs Anti-Smuggling Act while Commodity Inspection Act with the BSMI.

KLC will continue to strengthen Customs enforcement to screen out the uninspected gas cylinders from entering the market,” KLC added. Importers are thus urged to make honest declaration and apply for commodity inspection to the BSMI to avoid further punishment.
