The Second International Simulation Video Conference Held Successfully to Strengthen the Cultivation of International Customs Talents

The Customs Administration expressed that, as Customs is a highly internationalized agency, two International Simulation Video Conferences are held each year in English to enable colleagues to share and discuss major customs issues and to nurture talents with an international view as well as enhance their English ability.
This year, the Second Simulation of International Video Conference was successfully held on December 22. The Conference was organized by Keelung Customs and Kaohsiung Customs, while colleagues from Customs Administration, Taipei Customs, and Taichung Customs also enthusiastically participated.
Four colleagues from the above-mentioned organizers made informative presentations covering significant customs topics such as “eATA Carnet on the Way: from Paper to Digital Document,” “Introduction to Administrative Execution,” “The Application of Internal Control Auditing in Bonded Business,” and “The Marine Revolution Strategy―A Case Study of Kaohsiung Customs.” The content of the presentations is quite diversified, including the latest trends in international customs affairs, the sharing of customs operation, and customs innovation plans. Many participants raised questions about the briefings and triggered intense discussions. Through the interaction, customs officers not only obtained professional expertise and the latest development of international customs trends, but also improve their English question-and-answer skills simultaneously.
The Customs Administration further stated that, since handling the clearance of passengers’ luggage as well as import and export goods is customs officers’ main duty, they need to be familiar with the recent progression of customs matters and be able to communicate with traders, passengers, or customs officers from countries around the world with a second language (especially English). Therefore, establishing a bilingual learning environment and providing appropriate capacity building are essential to improve service quality.
