Taipei Customs Calls on Inbound Passengers Not to Carry Quarantined Items to Prevent the Spread of African Swine Fever

Taipei customs pointed out that the customs have successively seized 182 cases of inbound passengers who carried quarantined pork items, such as ham sausage, bacon, egg rolls with pork, pork jerky, etc., via the Green (Goods free of declaration) Channel at Taoyuan International Airport from January to March, 2023. All of these cases have been forwarded to the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan for review. In accordance with paragraph 2 of article 34 of "Statue for Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Diseases", passengers or personnel traveling on the vehicle, vessel or aircraft that carries quarantine objects shall apply for animal quarantine upon arrival. The total fines of these 182 cases seized by TPC reached the number of NTD 23.52 million.

Taipei Customs further stated that the situation of African swine fever epidemic is still severe in Asia; If a passenger violates paragraph 2 of article 34 of "Statue for Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Diseases", for the first time of violation, a fine of NTD 200,000 will be penalized, and for the second time of violation, the fine will be increased to NTD 1 million. If a foreign inbound passenger fails to pay the fine, he/she will be repatriated.

Taipei customs calls on inbound passengers not to carry these animal products which need to have quarantine inspection. In order to prevent the invasion of epidemic diseases, the customs will strengthen cooperation with Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine.
