Can Citizens Whose Salaries or Wages Been Falsely Reported Protect the Rights?

National Taxation Bureau of Kaohsiung, Ministry of Finance expressed that citizens often ask about how to do when their salaries or wages have been falsely reported. The first thing to do is to check it with the tax withholding unit that issues the Withholding & Non-Withholding Tax Statement. If such error is caused by a repeated tax filing mistake or the entering of a wrong personal ID number by the tax withholding unit, the tax withholding unit should apply for an amendment to the taxation bureau. If the said false report is confirmed, the taxpayer may report the case to the taxation bureau of his or her household registration place by submitting the Non-Withholding Tax Statement; employment certificate of other companies; details of withdrawn salaries or wages; national health insurance related information; or certificates related to his/her studies, performance of military services, serving sentences and abroad experience. If the said false report has been proved according to the investigation, the taxpayer may write off the said salary/ wage income.

The Bureau further explained that, to avoid their salaries or wages being falsely reported, taxpayers must not freely give their personal ID (original or photocopy) and stamps to other people. Also, upon receipt of the salary or wage, it is a must to verify the amount; and to keep the pay slip as an evidence for future verification.
