Taichung Customs has recently detected concealed import-prohibited products from Mainland China (e.g., ceramic tiles, industrial motors, electric bikes and food preparation) via non-intrusive inspection several times. Duty-payers who deliberately  import those prohibited products without declaration will face penalties under regulations by customs.

Taichung customs say importers are suggested to look up import regulations on commodities made in China prior to importation.If they are listed on the import prohibition list due to "MW0" or "MP1" on the official website of the International Trade Administration of Ministry of Economic Affairs(TITA) (https://fbfh.trade.gov.tw/fh/ap/queryCCCRegFormf.do), obtaining an import permit from the relevant government agency before importing restricted goods is mandatory. An importer who neither makes an honest declaration nor obtains permit documents issued by competent authorities within time limits is suspected of escaping customs controls. A fine no more than three times the value of the goods shall be imposed, and the smuggled goods shall be confiscated according to Customs Anti-smuggling Act.

Taichung Customs emphasizes that risk management and high-tech instruments for inspection are integrated in border control, and that traders should not take a chance on smuggling concealed illicit items to avoid legal punishment. Taichung Customs will enhance inspection continually and deter illegal trafficking of prohibited and restricted products to protect the development of domestic industries.
