Taipei Customs Calls on Inbound/Outbound Passengers to Honestly Declare the Value of the Items Related to Money Laundering Control Act

Taipei Customs seized 2.7155 kilograms of gold from an outbound passenger's hand-carry luggage at Taoyuan Airport on the 5th of September, 2022. This is because the passenger has violated the Money Laundering Control Act for being unable to declare the value of the gold to the customs.

Taipei customs further points out that, in accordance with Article 12 of the "Money Laundering Control Act" and Article 3 of the "Anti-Money Laundering Regulations for Cross-border Declaration and Reporting", if the passenger carries gold with a total value of more than USD 20,000, he/she should declare its value to the customs fairly and honestly. Otherwise, a fine will be imposed on the passenger equivalent to the undeclared or false value of the gold.

Taipei Customs calls on passengers to honestly declare the value of these items to the customs if a passenger carries foreign currency over the value equivalent to USD 10,000, RMB20,000, NTD100,000, gold over the value equivalent to USD 20,000, or diamond including precious stones, platinum not for personal use over the value equivalent to NTD 500,000, so as not to be punished by the Customs.  If passengers have any further questions, please feel free to contact the customs at 0800-311-005 for more information.
