Taichung Customs Strengthens Seizure of Restricted Agricultural Products Originating from Mainland China Before Lunar New Year

Considering domestic agricultural industry development, our government’s trade policy forbids or restricts imports of rice, rice flour, peanuts, tea or seeds and those classified in tariff Chapters 1 to 8 originating from Mainland China. According to “The Smuggling Penalty Act” Article 3, smuggling those agricultural products exceed NTD $ 100,000 or weigh more than 1,000 kilograms from Mainland China will be sentenced to a maximum 5-year fixed-term imprisonment, or detention, and/or a maximum fine of 1.5 million New Taiwan Dollars. Even for those less than NTD $ 100,000 and 1,000 kilograms will still be imposed with a fine no more than three times the value of the cargoes in question and the smuggled cargoes shall be confiscated according to “Customs Anti-smuggling Act” Article 36.

Taichung Customs indicated that due to the demand of New Year shopping before lunar New Year, customs will strengthen seizure of restricted agricultural products from Mainland China. They also reminds that DO NOT import or bring these restricted Chinese products into Taiwan. Let’s work together for domestic agricultural industry development and national health.
