In order to assist people to purchase their own houses, the Ministry of Finance launched the "Preferential Housing Loans for the Youth" on December 1, 2010. This project is conducted by eight banks with government-owned shareholdings using their own funds. The implementation period is until the end of 2022. A new option with a one-off variable rate has been added to the project in 2019. This project had reduced the markup rate by 0.03 percentage point (from 0.585% to 0.555%), with a current interest rate of 1.525% for new application cases from January 1, 2021. This provides more choices for borrowers.
As of the end of May 2022, preferential housing loans conducted by the eight banks with government-owned shareholdings had been granted at the amount of NT$1,329 billion.
