Mr. Jain-Rong Su, Governor for R.O.C. in the ADB, delivered oral remarks and held media interviews during the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the ADB.
Furthermore, Minister Su had interviews with the international media during this Annual Meeting. Minister Su responded to the international media regarding the current financial situation, the Forward-Looking Infrastructure Development Program, Pension Reform and recent achievements of major fiscal reforms. Minister Su also put emphasis on our continued efforts on promoting relevant measures such as establishing multiple channels for the cultivation of financial resources, restructuring expenditures, and adjusting the tax system in order to achieve the goals of fiscal sustainability. In addition, Minister Su further responded to the international media regarding the impact of the US-China trade war on our country's economy and government's response measures. What’s more, Minister Su also mentioned that the EU has successively reviewed the taxation system of 92 countries including our country since the beginning of 2017, and urged all countries to fulfill their global responsibility for anti-tax avoidance. In order to respond positively and show sincerity of cooperation, the Ministry of Finance worked together with relevant government agencies to implement all necessary measures. Therefore, the EU affirmatively acknowledged our positive response and sincerity of cooperation by removing our country from the EU observation list of tax non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purpose when the list was updated on 12 March 2019. Minister Su further responded to the international media that we would continue to cooperate with all countries and jurisdictions to promote anti-tax avoidance measures and enhance information transparency, so as to maintain our international image and prestige and safeguard the investment rights and competitiveness of our enterprises in EU member countries.
During this Annual Meeting, Minister Su actively interacted with representatives of ADB member countries and expressed our country’s hope to become the best partner for cooperation and experience-sharing among ADB member countries. Meanwhile, Minister Su spared no effort to elaborate on our fiscal and other achievements and efforts to raise Taiwan's international visibility.
