The closing ceremony of the 2012 International Taxation Academy held on June 29th at the Training Institute, MOF was presided over by the Political Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Tseng Ming-Chung. In the ceremony, the Deputy Minister awarded certificates of completion to the participants in the program.
This year, the courses focused on (1) International Trends in Consumption Tax, (2) International Trends in Real Estate Tax (include taxation of real estate transactions), and (3) Taxation of Trusts. Ranking officials from eight countries including the Dominican Republic, Gambia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Poland, Swaziland, and Turkey participated in the Academy, along with 42 local participants.
Deputy Minister Tseng expressed gratitude to the Southern Methodist University School of Law for helping the MOF in inviting internationally renowned taxation experts to lecture on the course. He also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for providing foreign participants with funding support to travel to Taiwan and take part in the Academy.
Deputy Minister Tseng stressed that the Academy provides tax officers from various countries with a firsthand understanding of current developments in regard to taxation polices in major economies via the use of case studies and the exchange of experience and expertise among tax officers and experts.
Deputy Minister Tseng further stressed that as our government advocates the fostering of international taxation dialogues and the creation of barrier-free investment capabilities and an international taxation environment, the Ministry of Finance has made various efforts to achieve this vision. In addition to active engagement in the negotiation of bilateral taxation agreements and participation in international taxation forums to share taxation experiences, the Ministry of Finance is also committed to making a concrete contribution to the international community by the hosting of international training seminars such as the Academy.
