In order to strengthen international exchanges, cultivate taxation personnel, and assist local tax officers to better understand EU tax law, the MOFTI is scheduled to hold the “The 2012 EU Taxation Seminar” from 20th to 21st February, 2012. Professor Franciscus A. Engelen from Leiden University, Netherlands has been invited to lecture on issues related to the relationships between EU tax law, tax treaties and fundamental freedoms of EU members and share his valuable experience with local participants.Topics in the Seminar include:
1. EU Law and Direct Taxation-Introduction and General Principles
2. Balancing Powers of Taxation in the Internal Market
3. The Exemption Method for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Treatment of Losses.
Mr. Franciscus A. Engelen is currently a Professor in the Department of International Taxation at Leiden University Netherlands. He also lectures on European tax law in the postgraduate course “European Fiscal Studies” at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. In addition, he is also a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He holds a Ph.D. degree awarded by Erasmus University in 2004, and is also a regular speaker and writer on issues of international and European tax law at international conferences.
In seeking tax equity and a sound tax system, we believe that the holding of this Seminar will benefit our country greatly in the continuous reform of the tax system conducted by the MOF and further enable our country to keep pace with global trends in order to enhance our competitiveness in the world.
